EXCLUSIVE: Dia Maté sa pagpili kay Regine para sa ‘INA’: Siya ang OG baklang babae!

HINDI lang kanta, kundi isang paalala ng pagtanggap at pagmamahal para sa queer community.
‘Yan ang sinabi ng viral pop singer-songwriter at beauty queen na si Dia Maté tungkol sa inilabas niyang single na “INA” tampok ang tinaguriang OG baklang babae ng Pilipinas na si Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.
Kamakailan lang, nagkaroon ng exclusive online interview ang BANDERA sa nag-iisang Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 at isa sa mga chinika niya ay ‘yung malalim na hugot sa bago niyang kanta.
Kwento sa amin ni Dia, kasama niyang nagsulat nito ay ang BFF niyang si Dom Guyot na isang ring miyembro ng LGBT community.

Ginawa raw nila ang “INA” bilang tribute at safe space anthem para sa lahat ng nakikipaglaban sa identity at acceptance.
Ipinaliwanag din ng beauty queen na ang “INA” ay para sa lahat ng nahihirapan, nalilito, at pinanghihinaan ng loob dahil sa kung sino sila.
Ang nais pa niyang iparating mula sa kanyang single: “You have to remember that there’s always gonna be people that love you, they’re gonna be the mothers that will love you and take care of you. And remember that don’t let that fire die inside of you just because of the scrutiny that you may get –be confident of who you are because at the end of the day, there’ll always be people that will support you.”
Nabanggit din ni Dia na ang kanta ay inaalay rin para sa The Golden Gays, ang legendary drag group na nagsilbing pintuan para sa visibility ng LGBTQIA+ community sa bansa.
“The Golden Gays really dressed up performed, they didn’t care what people thought about them, they really went out of their way to be who they wanted to be unapologetically dressed up the way they wanted, performed the way they wanted in front of the crowd, even though they went under so much scrutiny. And because they did this so much, it really created a space for them,” sey ng singer-songwriter.
Patuloy niya, “So it’s really a song that’s meant for who paved the for all of us.”
Nang tanungin naman namin si Dia kung bakit si Regine ang napili niyang maka-collab sa bagong kanta.
Ang sagot niya, “Kasi according to the queer community, she’s the gay icon of the Philippines…She is an inspiration to so many people in the queer community.”
“Even Ate Reg said herself when we were at the recording studio, so many of her fans are gay or from the queer community and siya talaga ‘yung OG baklang babae –that’s the title that they gave her,” chika niya.
Giit din ni Dia, ang Asia’s Songbird ang perfect fir para sa kanyang kanta at tuwang-tuwa siya nang mapa-OO agad niya ang batikang singer.
“She looked at the lyrics and listened to the demo, she really loved it because it really had a message that was for the community and she really acknowledged that babaeng bakla siya…so she said yes kaagad and she was the best person to work with, it was like being in a masterclass talaga with her,” kwento ng young singer.
At bukod sa vocal tips at performance advice, ibinunyag din sa amin ni Dia ang isa pa sa mga payo ni Regine na tumatak sa kanya.
“When it comes to the community, be sensitive,” sambit ni Dia.
“I don’t know what they’re going through ‘di ba because I’m just an ally in a sense. I can only observe, I can only help but in reality is I am not part of the community, so as much as possible, be sensitive to them –say what’s respectful, be respectful, and really immerse myself to the community as much as possible,” esplika niya sa panayam.

Bago matapos ang aming interview, masayang inanunsyo ni Dia na maglulunsad siya ng fundraising event para matulungang magkaroon ng permanenteng tirahan at medical need ang The Golden Gays.
Ito ay mangyayari sa Hoesik Bar & Lounge sa Makati sa darating na May 15.
“It’s open for all, it’s gonna be a regular night with regular ticket prices. The Golden Gays and I will be performing there,” anunsyo niya.
Mensahe naman niya para sa kanyang loyal fans at supporters: “To all my Diamantes, I just want to say thank you so much for sticking with me from the beginning of my music and pageant journey until now.”
“I truly wouldn’t be the queen and the pop girl I am now without all of you,” aniya pa.
