SSS benefits

I am one of your readers in Aksyon Line. I would like to ask in behalf of my mother about her SSS benefits. She only had one (1) month contribution. If this is the case, what benefits can she get? If ever, can I make her as my dependent? I am married with four (4) children. I will appreciate it very much if you could help me. Thank you so much.
Yolly

REPLY:
According to Ms. Yolly her mother was able to make one contribution with the SSS.

Under the social security law, survivors of members with at least one contribution are entitled to funeral and lump sum death benefits as long as the contribution/s is/are valid.

Contributions are rendered invalid for voluntary paying members, if member paid without any previous contributions from employment or self employment; for self employed members, if SSS is unable to establish reported business; and for employed members, if there is no existing employer-employee relationship between member and reported employer.

Ms Yolly has actually reported her parents as her beneficiaries in the SSS Form E1 that she submitted when she applied for an SS number. Parents are considered secondary beneficiaries. They are considered to received benefits if the deceased member is single. Parents can also be considered for married members if the legal spouse of member is already dead or has been disqualified to receive benefits and if there are no minor children.

I hope we were able to clarify these matters for her.
Thank you for your continued trust.
Very truly yours,
