GUMAWA na naman ng kasaysayan sa mundo ng pelikula ang veteran actor na si John Arcilla matapos magwaging best actor sa ginaganap na 78th Venice Film Festival sa Italy.
Si John ang kauna-unahang Filipino actor na nakakuha ng Coppa Volpi (Volpi Cup) for Best Actor sa 78th Venice Film Festival para sa pelikulang “On the Job: The Missing 8.”
Ginagampanan ng Kapamilya actor sa movie ang karakter ni Sisoy Salas, isang radio journalist na madadamay sa masalimuot at madugong mundo ng krimen at politika.
Ang “On the Job: The Missing 8” ay sa direksyon ni Eric Matti at isa sa mga official entries na lumaban para sa main competition ng prestihiyosong 2021 Venice Film Festival. Si Direk Erik din ang tumanggap ng award para kay John.
“Well if there is something that I really regret tonight is that I will not be able to kiss my own Volpi Cup there in the middle of Venice and on that red carpet just like the other 77 great actors whom I admire who have already kissed their own, this most wonderful and prestigious award…
“So I am also the happiest actor tonight of course also because I know that we came from different countries and we have different languages and cultures and yet I can feel oneness tonight and I can feel that you understand me and we understand each other. It’s because of the art of cinema,” ang pahayag ni John sa kanyang video message.
Ayon sa Film Development Council of the Philippines, ang “On the Job: The Missing 8” ang kaisa-isang Southeast Asian film sa 21 official entries na napiling lumaban para sa main competition.
Sa kanyang Instagram account, ipinost ni John Arcilla ang isang video na kuha kagabi sa ginanap na awards night sa Italy kung saan binigyan ng five-minute standing ovation ang kanilang pelikula pagkatapos ng world-premiere nito.
Nauna rito, ibinahagi rin ni John sa IG ang iba pang best actor winner sa Coppa Volpi, kabilang na sina Brad Pitt at Sean Penn hawak ang kanilang mga trophy.
Aniya sa caption: “Here is the roster of some Great Actors who won the most coveted Volpi Cup at the Venice international Film Festival. I wish we can have one someday! Hahahaha if you dream as they say. Dream big! God bless everyone.”
Nagkomento naman sa kanyang IG post ang co-star niya sa movie na si Dennis Trillo na personal na dumalo sa nasabing filmfest sa Italy. Aniya, “Hindi magtatagal ay mangyayari din yan Heneral???????? @johnarcilla.”
“Nakaka-proud talaga that we were recognized by a prestigious festival that is considered one of the four biggest global festivals.
“Nakakataba ng puso na pasok kami sa standards ng Venice! I am also happy for my director, Erik Matti, and producer, Dondon Monteverde,” ang naging pahayag naman ni John noong malamang lalaban sila sa 78th Venice International Film Festival na may temang “The Venice Biennale: Cinema in the Time of COVID.”
