I have written this in behalf of my friend. She has concerns about SSS. She would like to know if she can avail a loan for her daughter’s tuition fee. According to her, her premium is not consistent.
She had a job in 2007 but stopped in January 2010. Then, she got another job in June 2010 which lasted until February 2013. Last April, she was again hired. All of her employers were paying her premiums. But the premiums from the months she was not working were not paid. Is there a possibility that she can still avail a loan for the tuition fee of her daughter? If not, can you explain how she can avail of such loan?

REPLY: This in response to the letter of Jemimah asking if her friend can avail of the educational loan program of the SSS.
An SSS member can avail of the educational loan program if he or she has at least 12 posted monthly contributions with at least one contribution within the last three months prior to date of application for loan. The member’s actual basic salary should not be more than P25,000 per month.
If Ms. Jemimah’s friend is qualified based on the conditions stated above, she can avail of the loan program for her child. For a college degree, a maximum of P20,000 per semester or trimester can be borrowed; for technical and vocational course, maximum loanable amount per semester or trimester is P10,000.
Forms for the educational loan are available in SSS offices and can be downloaded and printed from www.sss.gov.ph.
Filled out application form should be submitted to the nearest SSS office together with an assessment or billing from the school, and a photocopy of member’s SSS ID or two valid IDs.
