Binatikos ng isang think tank group ang anila’y “kawalang kaalaman” ng Malacañang sa panganib na kaakibat ng partisipasyon ng isang Chinese company sa Sangley international airport project.
Sinabi ng Pinoy Aksyon for Governance and the Environment (Pinoy Aksyon) na “imposible” ang pahayag nig Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea na hindi niya alam na bahagi ng P500 bilyong proyekto ang China Communications and Construction Co. Ltd (CCCC).
Ang CCCC, na bahagi ng consortium na nakakuha ng Sangley Point International Airport project sa Cavite, ay kabilang sa mga Chinese firms na blacklisted sa US dahil sa partisipasyon nito sa pagtatayo ng mga artipisyal na isla sa South China Sea.
“We are not aware of specific companies as of now,” pahayag ni Medialdea noong Lunes sa pagdinig ng Kamara sa P8.2 bilyong badyet ng Palasyo para sa taong 2021.
“Is this washing of hands, plain cluelessness or what? Either way it does bode well for the country as it strikes serious question on who really is calling the shots now. We need answers,” ayon kay Pinoy Aksyon convenor BenCyrus Ellorin.
Matapos na lumabas sa media ang isyu, nagbabala si Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. na maaring ipawalang-bisa ang kontrata ng mga Chinese companies na sangkot sa reclamation project sa South China Sea, kabilang na sa lugar na may territorial claim ang Pilipinas. Pero binawi rin ni Locsin ang pahayag niyang ito matapos na hindi sumang-ayon ang Palasyo.
“Something is amiss in the Palace — the seat of government — when members of the Cabinet sing different tunes,” ani Ellorin.
Nagpahayag din ng suporta ang grupo sa Philippine Navy na tumututol sa pagpapatalsik sa naval stations sa Sangley Point dahil mahalaga umano ang mga ito sa seguridad ng bansa.
Sianbi ni Vice Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, ang flag officer in command ng Philippine Navy, na ang CCCC ay hindi lamang karaniwang construction firm dahil sa papel na ginampanan nito sa militarisasyon ng South China Sea at panghihimasok ng China sa exclusive economic zone ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
“All the more we want to remain there so to ensure that there are no security violations,” ayon kay Bacordo.
Sa House Resolution 1199 ni Representative Rufus Rodriguez, hinikayat ang Department of National Defense na siguruhing mananatili ang Naval Bases Heracleo Alano at Pascual Ledesma sa kanilang lokasyon sa Sangley Point.
“The Sangley Point Naval Base is where the headquarters of the Philippine Fleet, the headquarters of the Naval Installation Command, and other vital facilities and offices of the Philippine Navy are located,” ayon sa resolusyon.
“Maybe it is high time the government show courage and patriotism in defending our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” ayon kay Ellorin.
Ang mga pangyayaring ito, ayon kay Ellorin, ay nagpapakita lamang kung gaano na kahina ang bansa.
“Weak external security amid threats from state and non-state actors, economic decline, serious graft and corruption issues and mounting poverty are unhealthy signs for our state,” wika niya.
“For the country to rebound, government leadership needs to shape up, show the way not later but now, as the bottom line of these ‘throw-away policy’ is bad governance and when things turn for the worse, the people suffer more as the fibers that weave the fabric of public accountability and people participation is broken,” dagdag ni Ellorin.
