NAGLABAS ng joint statement ang 12 kongresista mula sa Easter Visayas upang manawagan sa gobyerno na suportahan ang mga programa laban sa coronavirus disease 2019 sa rehiyon.
Pinangunahan ni House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez ang mga kongresista mula sa Leyte at Samar upang ipanawagan ang pagtiyak na mayroong sapat na suplay ng personal protective equipment, may pondo para sa mga quarantine centers, mapalabas ang contracting tracing capability sa rehiyon at makapagtayo ng regional processing center para sa mga umuuwing residente.
Nais din ng mga kongresista na pagibayuhin ang telehealth medicine at paggamit ng digital platform sa health services, at iba pang hakbang upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.
“We pray that our plan for collective action to contain the spread of COVID-19 disease in Eastern Visayas will come into fruition the soonest time possible,” saad ng pahayag. “Time is of the essence. We do not need another epicenter of COVID-19. Not in Eastern Visayas. Not in any part of the country.”
Nagpahayag rin ng pangamba ang mga solon sa Hatid Probinsya program ng gobyerno kung walang maipatutupad na maayos na health protocol.
“We welcome our returning kabugtu-an and kaigsoonan to Samar and Leyte with open arms. We share their grief and agony in getting stranded away from their loved ones in these difficult times. They deserve the warm embrace of their families and their communities,” saad ng mga solon mula sa Region VIII.
“However, we firmly believe that it is the duty of government to ensure that these constituents of ours are free from coronavirus infection and other diseases before they are allowed to rejoin their family members. Their freedom from COVID-19 infection means that their loved ones are free from harm, too.”
Noong Marso 23 nagkaroon ng unang kaso ng COVID-19 sa rehiyon matapos umuwi sa Catarman, Northern Samar ang isang pasyente na tumira sa San Juan City.
Noong Hunyo 13 ay 68 ang bagong kasong nadagdag kaya umakyat sa 200 ang kabuuang bilang ng COVID-19 cases sa Region 8.
Ang pagtaas ay nangyari matapos ipatupad ang Hatid Probinsya program.
