DUMAMI umano ang mga mahihirap na pamilya dahil sa epekto ng coronavirus disease 2019.
Ayon kay Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez, co-chair ng Defeat COVID-19 Committee ng Kamara de Representantes, milyong pamilya ang nahila pababa sa newly poor families.
Bago ang COVID-19 pandemic ay tinatayang 5.4 milyong pamilya ang mahirap. Dumagdag na umano dito ngayon ang 15.4 milyong low-income and lower middle income families na nawalan ng kita sa Enhanced Community Quarantine.
“This is because of the jobs and industries affected by covid-19.”
Kasama umano dito ang mga pamilya ng driver, waiter, salon workers, office at mall business owners.
“With a clearer idea of our income strata, perhaps we can expand the emergency cash subsidy program from 18 million to 20 million families,” ani Torres.
“The wider net now covers 85% of families. That leaves out only 15% of Filipino families, so literally why are we even asking so many questions when they know that we want to give to 85% of families,” ani Gomez.
Ang P100 bilyon na ipamimigay para sa buwan ng Mayo ay maaari umanong hatiin na lamang ng tig-P5,000 para matulungan ng 85 porsyento ng mga pamilya.
“The new poor are not part of the DSWD’s 4Ps; the New Poor are those belonging to the low-income and lower middle class,” saad ng lady solon.
