KINILALA ni Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera ang kahalagahan ng media sa paglaban sa coronavirus disease 2019.
Ayon kay Herrera maituturing na frontliner din ang mga media men partikular ang mga reporter, cameraman at photographer kailangang lumabas para makakuha ng kanilang ibabalita.
“Just like the doctors and nurses on the frontlines of this global pandemic, these dedicated members of the media are also taking part as frontliners working round the clock to bring vital information about COVID-19,” ani Herrera.
Nauna ng napaulat na nahawa ng COVID-19 ang CNN anchor na si Chris Cuomo at namatay naman ang 54-anyos na mamamahayag ng CBS na si Maria Mercader.
“Despite knowing that their lives are in danger, they nevertheless perform their duties diligently and inform the world of the situation. We have nothing but respect and admiration to the members of the media.”
Kamakailan ay sinuspendi ng dzMM ang regular programming nito matapos ma-exposed ang mga empleyado nito sa mga persons under investigation na may exposure sa COVID-19 positive.
Ang CNN Philippines naman ay pansamantalang huminto ang broadcasting matapos makumpirma na mayroong confirmed COVID-19 case sa gusali kung nasaan ang kanilang operasyon.
“The role of our quad-media in spreading reliable news and information in this time of crisis cannot be overstated,” dagdag pa ni Herrera.
