MAGSASAGAWA ang Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) ng mga tryouts para sa Baseball5 Tournament na magbubukas sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ngayong darating na Abril.
Ang Baseball5 ay ang “street version” ng baseball at softball at kinikilala ito ng World Baseball Softball Confederation, ang world governing body ng sport.
“Baseball5 is the new five-on-five, five inning street version of the game of baseball and softball that can be played anywhere,” sabi ni WBSC president Ricardo Fraccari. “This faster urban discipline will help drive baseball and softball to new places not possible before.”
Ang tryouts ay gaganapin sa Rizal High School sa Pasig City ngayong Sabado at Linggo, Pebrero 29 at Marso 1, alas-9 ng umaga hanggang alas-12 ng tanghali. Ang tryouts ay bukas para sa mga lalaki at babaeng players na may hawak na Philippine passport.
“This is the first ever WBSC Baseball5 World Cup and I am more than thrilled to announce that we are holding tryouts for this tournament. We are in search of new talent and I am confident that our pool of local players will show their mettle and make the country proud,” sabi ni ASAPHIL president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
May dalawang kategorya ang Baseball5 at ito ay ang Open mixed team at under-15 mixed team na binubuo ng walong players na tig-apat na lalaki at babaeng manlalaro kasama ang dalawang delegate officials na magsisilbing coach at team manager.
Ang mga manlalaro na hangad lumahok sa under-15 mixed category ay kailangang ipinanganak noong Enero 1, 2005.
Ang torneo na gaganapin sa Malaysia ay ang kauna-unahang continental qualifier sa Baseball5 World Cup at ang lahat ng mga Asian members ay inimbitahang lumahok. Mayroon namang dalawang World Cup qualifiers kung saan ang mga koponan ay magka-qualify sa 2020 World Cup na gaganapin sa Mexico ngayong Disyembre 2020.
Ang bawat bansa o teritoryo ay puwedeng magpadala ng isang koponan kada kategorya at ang Asian team na magkakampeon sa bawat kategorya ay magkakaroon ng puwesto sa World Cup.
