Of late, netizens have not gotten over sa dick painting ni Richard Gomez which was bought for P196,000.
Ang dami pa rin naming nababasang aria on social media but this one, to us, nailed it. It came from Nadine Flores, editor-in-chief of Pop Dojo. It was thought-provoking as it was enlightening also.
“I think the point here was not to criticize Goma’s skill level but rather, how someone who obviously has no place in the industry, after already being a successful actor (and politician to an extent) is able to easily get a spot in events that are meant to showcase the hardwork and talent of artists all over the country.
“The fact that this man gets a pass for his mediocrity, when so many much more deserving artists who are pouring their own blood, sweat, and tears into their craft still don’t get the proper exposure and appreciation they deserve is what makes this infuriating.
“It’s not just the lazy dick painting that’s under criticism here, it’s how unfair the system is at recognizing what passes for ‘art’. If Goma wasn’t Goma, his paintings wouldn’t stand a chance at being in exhibits.
“I can appreciate conceptual modern art, but not tasteless men in positions of power who exploit their privilege.” That was Nadine’s Facebook post.
But on the other hand, kasalanan din ba ni Richard na his artwork fetched such a huge amount?
