Alfred Vargas. Otherwise, ang kahaharapin ng sinumang gurong lalabag if ever this becomes a law ay multang aabot sa P50,000 o dalawa o hanggang tatlong taong pagkakabilanggo.
Nakaka-relate kami sa usaping ito na nais ipatupad ng actor-politiko as once upon a time ay naging bahagi kami ng isang learning institution bagama’t hindi kami nagtapos ng BSEd.
Summarily, tuwing Biyernes o huling araw ng school week lang naman ipagbababawal ang homework to make the student spend quality time with his family.
Ang kay Vargas naman, and we quote: “to promote and protect the physical, moral, spi-ritual, intellectual and social well-being of the youth to the end that the youth realize their potential for improving the quality of life,” unquote.
Biased ang take namin on this as back then we saw nothing wrong with giving weekend assignments to our students. Pero hiningan namin ng opinyon ang aming first cousin, si Marivic Faicol-Carreon na dating Grade School Vice Principal and English Subject Area Chair of San Beda College Alabang.
Ito ang kanyang pananaw: “The main goal in giving homework should always be to enhance and reinforce learning. However, it has been observed over time that some assignments have become boring, unchallenging, too long and quite tedious, especially for those in the lower grade levels.
“As a consequence, not a few parents have resorted to doing the homework themselves thereby defeating the very purpose for which they are given.”
Dagdag niya, “A number of schools have mapped out their learning logs so that assignments need not be given out during weekends, to allow our students to spend time on other leisure activities and non-academic pursuits.”

Ang pagiging palikero (a euphemism for babaero or womanizer) ng isang anak na lalaki may be understandably genetic.
But Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto is an exception.
Kung makulay ang buhay-pag-ibig ng kanyang amang si Vic—a fact known in showbiz circles—this cannot be said of the 30-year-old mayor. More surpri-singly—if not intriguingly—hindi pa raw siya nagkaroon ng nobya—hold your breath—since birth.
Parang sinabi na rin ng simpatikong bachelor na mahirap pagsabayin ang trabaho at lovelife when most men think that being in love is all the more a boost to their career.
Medyo weird, pero may ganito palang kaso leaving anyone with the irreconcilable thought na anak pa mandin siya ng isang Vic Sotto. Hindi pala chip off the old block si Mayor Vico.
In fairness, nasa himig naman niya ang pagsasabing he won’t end up being a bachelor for the rest of his life. Pero naiimadyin namin how picky he is with girls whose trait—first and foremost—ay dapat tinataglay ng kanyang inang si Coney Reyes.
