MATAPOS magpahayag si Pangulong Duterte na hindi ito makiki-alam sa speakership race, kanya-kanya ng pagpapakita ng puwersa ang mga kandidato.
Isang manifesto of support ang inilabas para kay Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco ng PDP-Laban samantalang nagsama-sama naman ang mga kongresista mula sa iba’t ibang partido sa pangunguna ni Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez para pag-usapan ang mga panukalang batas na kailangan ni Duterte sa kanyang huling tatlong taon sa Malacanang.
Noong Martes ng gabi inilabas ang Multiparty Manifesto of Support para kay Velasco. “We believe that Representative Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco is the best choice to lead the House of Representatives in the 18th Congress given his experience, competence and strong camaraderie with his colleagues.”
Ibinasura rin ng grupo ni Velasco ang panukalang term sharing ng mga kandidato sa pagka-speaker.
Nagpasalamat naman si Velasco sa pagpapakita ng pagsuporta sa kanya. “I am humbled, as well as inspired, by my esteemed colleagues’ trust and support. Rest assured that I will be a consensus builder, a listening speaker and a decisive leader should I be elected as the next leader of the House of Representatives.”
Kaninang umaga, nagsama-sama naman ang mga kongresista mula rin sa iba’t ibang political party para pag-usapan ang legislative agenda ng Kongreso.
Sinabi ni Capiz Rep. Fred Castro, pangulo ng National Unity Party, na kailangan ang kooperasyon ng Kamara de Representantes para agad na maisabatas ang mga panukala ng Malacanang.
“This is just the beginning, possibly the spark needed to unite the 18th Congress. In the coming days and weeks, other congressmen who already signed the manifesto of support for our Speaker, Cong. Martin, will also come out in the open and join us in our gatherings. It is difficult to schedule a caucus of more than 180 congressmen in a single day,” ani Castro.
Kailangan ng 154 boto upang manalo sa pagka-speaker. Ang botohan ay sa Hulyo 22, ilang oras bago ang State of the Nation Address ni Duterte.
Sinabi naman ni Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, isang miyembro ng PDP-Laban, na suportado nito si Romualdez kahit kapartido nito si Velasco.
“We are 100 percent behind Cong. Martin as Speaker. We need to get his views on how to make the next Congress more effective in legislating the laws that are beneficial to our countrymen,” ani Salceda.
Ayon naman kay Anak Kalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor dalawa sa bawat tatlong partylist solon ang sumusuporta kay Romualdez.
