Sa Hulyo 12, Biyernes na ang simula ng bagong araw ng pagpapalabas ng mga bagong pelikulang lokal kung tama ang bilang namin (na pagkalipas ng 15 araw pagkatapos mailathala ang balitang ito mula sa Film Development Council of the Philippines).
Base ito sa inilabas ng FDCP Memorandum Circular No. 2019-01 kasama ang Policies at Guidelines sa Theatrical Release ng mga pelikulang Pilipino.
“This (Memorandum Circular) is the culmination of FDCP’s efforts to strengthen our industry practices and level the playing field for all our stakeholders – from film producers, to distributors, to our exhibitors, and even the audience – through a transparent and fair set of guidelines that addresses the gaps that have long plagued our industry when it comes to screening films in commercial theatres,” pahayag ni Chairperson Liza Diño.
Simula nang maupo si Chair Liza bilang head ng FDCP noong 2016 ay wala na siyang tigil sa pakikipagdayalogo sa mga kinauukulan tungkol sa problema ng local films at kung paano ito masosolusyunan.
Nitong Abril 25, 2019 ay nagkaroon ng meeting si Ms. Diño na makipag-partnership sa government agencies tulad ng DILG, MTRCB, DTI-EMB at sa Office of the Presidential Legal Counsel and Spokesperson.
Ang reklamo kasi ng filmmakers at film producers kapag hindi kumita ang pelikula nila sa unang araw ng pagbubukas nito ay kaagad nang inaalis sa mga sinehan kaya hindi nabibigyan ng tsansa na mapanood ng mas maraming tao.
Kaya pumabor ang karamihan sa industriya nag awing Biyernes ang pagbubukas ng bagong palabas ay para may guarantee silang tatlong araw na hindi ito tatanggalin sa sinehan.
Paniniwala ni Chair Liza kapag Biyernes ang opening day ng bagong pelikula ay may garantiyang tatlong araw, kasama na ang Sabado at Linggo. At kapag hindi talaga pinapasok ay puwede na itong palitan sa Linggo nang gabi para kinabukasan, Lunes ay bagong pelikula naman ang ilalagay.
“To push for Philippine cinema’s growth and development, new policies have been introduced via the MC which applies to both local and foreign films, including the switching of the theatrical release of local and foreign films nationwide from Wednesday to Friday to accommodate more potential moviegoers during the weekend.
“There will also be a minimum run-length of at least seven days for every film booked for theatrical release, as well as a theater assignment guarantee for the first three days to avoid movies from getting pulled out of cinemas. Booked films will be assigned with’ full screens’ for the first three days of their exhibition. This means there will be no screen splitting, or a double booking and exhibition for a single theatre screen,” base pa sa memorandum circular na inilabas ng FDCP.
Dagdag pa, “A fair ratio for booked Filipino and foreign films should also be observed in regular playdates to give local films a higher chance of being seen by the audience.
“To encourage watching local films at the cinemas among the youth, ticket prices for students of ages 18 years and below will now be priced at P200 in Metro Manila and a maximum of P150 in provinces every Wednesdays,” dagdag pa ng FDCP.
