No to unsafe workplace

Alan Tanjusay - April 30, 2019 - 12:15 AM

WORKERS like you used the social media express their fearful experience du-ring the earthquake.
Napakadami ng mga post, with supporting videos and
photos, ng galit dahil hindi sila pinalabas sa building na kanilang pinapasukan.
In fact, some were ordered by managers and supervisors to stay and told not
to abandon their stations and hang on to their cash boxes at the height of the tremor.

Marami rin ang napanganga dahil pinabalik sila kaagad sa trabaho to resume work matapos ang 6.1 magnitude earthquake na yumanig sa atin noong nakaraang linggo.
Ang matindi nito, may mga employees ng isang call center sa Clark ang inilipat pa by bus to Tarlac to continue their job right after the quake.
Lahat sila ay walang magawa kundi sumu-nod sa takot na mabalikan ng mga employer.
These decisions made by managers, supervisors, employers and business owners are inhumane. Malinaw na isang porma ng abusive labor practice.

The law requires management to provide employees with a safe and healthy workplace by instituting workplace evacuation protocols.

Employers must also check the workplace to be safe before employees are to return work.

Workers, on one hand, have the right to refuse to work kapag nakita at nalaman na unsafe and unhealthy ang kanyang workplace.

Justice can only be achieved if a complaint is filed at Labor department. Kung walang complaint, this injustice would just remain a rant.
