PATULOY umano ang pagbebenta online ng mga skin whitening cosmetics na hinaluan ng nakamamatay na mercury.
Ayon sa EcoWaste Coalition hindi dapat pinapayagan ng mga e-commerce sites ang mga third-party sellers na magbenta ng mga ipinagbabawal na produkto.
“These popular e-commerce platforms should not allow their sites to be used for the unethical and unlawful trade of cosmetics that can expose their customers to mercury and put their health and the environment at risk,” ani Thony Dizon ng EcoWaste.
Sinabi ni Dizon na maraming kustomer ang napapaniwala dahil sa ganda ng presentasyon at advertising ng mga produkto kahit ang pagbebenta nito ay na-ban ng Food and Drug Administration.
“As top e-commerce websites in the country, we call upon Lazada, Shopee and eBay to show their support for the Minamata Convention on Mercury by promptly taking down third-party ads for mercury-laden cosmetics,” dagdag pa ni Dizon.
Isa ang Pilipinas sa pumirma sa Minamata Convention na naglalayong i-phase out sa taong 2020 ang mga skin whitening cosmetics na lagpas ang taglay na mercury sa one part per million.

Ang Ailke Perfect Salvation, Angel Placenta, Collagen Plus Vit E, Erna, Goree at Jiaoli ay ipinagbawal ng ibenta ng FDA dahil lagpas sa 1 ppm ang taglay nitong mercury.
Sinisira ng mercury ang melanin pigment production ng balat kaya pumuputi ito. Sinisira naman nito ang nervous, immune at renal systems ng isang tao.
