LIMA sa kilalang pangalan sa larangan ng boksing sa bansa ang nakatakdang parangalan sa World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Summit at 3rd Women’s Convention na gaganapin ngayong Nobyembre 16-19 sa Philippine International Convention Center.
Pinangalanan ni Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra sina boxing legends Gabriel “Flash” Elorde at Pedro Adigue, dating WBC president Justiniano Montano, dating WBC secretary-general Rodrigo Salud at international matchmaker-promoter Lope “Papa” Sarreal bilang mga personalidad na bibigyan ng pinakamataas na pagkilala sa nasabing three-day convention.
“Our five posthumous awardees have brought immeasurable honors to the country through their achievements in boxing and it is only fitting that we honor them again now with the whole boxing world watching us during the WBC convention,” sabi ni Mitra.
Si Elorde ay Itinuturing bilang isa sa pinakamahusay na junior lightweight champion at hinawakan niya ang WBC junior lightweight belt sa loob ng pitong taon at tatlong buwan,kung saan 10 beses niya itong matagumpay na naidepensa.
Namayagpag naman ang pangalan ni Adigue nang mahablot niya ang WBC light welterweight belt mula kay Adolph Pruitt noong 1968 sa Araneta Coliseum.
Sina Montano at Salud naman ang nasa likod ng pagkakabuo ng WBC constitution noong 1967 convention sa Maynila. Bilang dating WBC secretary-general, si Salud ang may akda ng WBC constitution na niratipikahan sa ilalim ng pamamahala ni Montano.
Si Sarreal, na tinaguriang “Grand Old Man” ng Philippine boxing, ay nakagawa ng 22 world champion, kabilang na si Elorde, sa kasagsagan ng kanyang karera.
Pangungunahan naman nina WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, WBC International Secretary at WBC Cares International Chairperson Jill Diamond at WBC Women’s Championship Committee Chairman Malte Muller-Michealis ang convention at pagbibigay pugay sa limang Pinoy boxing personalities.
