SSS sickness notification

HI ma’am,

I would like to inquire if I can still submit a sickness notification for hospital confinement as of Nov. of 2017. Earlier this year I went to SSS and inquire if I can still submit it but they said it’s already late, but upon checking the instruction for hospital confinement, I have a year to file it. Can you help me with this?

REPLY: This refers to the inquiry of Ms. Rowena Berreda regarding her sickness notification.

Ms. Berreda failed to mention the details of her discussion with the concerned SSS branch regarding her SSS sickness claim. Those details are important so we can give her the right advice.

As a general rule, if the member was confined in a hospital, the member has one year from the start of confinement to notify her employer or SSS. Moreover, the SSS sickness benefit reimbursement application must be filed with the SSS within one year from date of discharge from the hospital. However, without the actual SSS sickness notification form, we cannot determine why the member’s claim was rejected by the SSS branch. Possible reasons a claim may be rejected outright are: (1) the medical certificate portion of the SSS sickness notification form was not accomplished; or (2) the form was not signed by the employer.

We encourage Ms. Berreda to refile her SSS Sickness Notification and indicate that it was a hospital confinement. She can file her sickness claim with any SSS branch near her with the duly accomplished SSS sickness notification form, valid IDs and medical documents indicating her hospital confinement.
