INIHAYAG ni Philippine Ambassador to the United Nations Teddyboy Locson, Jr. na pormal nang naisumite sa UN ang sulat ni Pangulong Duterte kaugnay ng kanyang desisyon na kumalas sa International Criminal Court (ICC).
“Letter# of withdrawal. Formally perfect. Delivered to the chef de cabinete. The Secretary General is abroad,” sabi ni Locsin sa kanyang tweet sa Twitter account na @teddyboylocsin.
Nauna nang inihayag ng Palasyo ang desisyon ni Duterte na umalis bilang miyembro ng ICC sa harap naman ng isinasagawang imbestigasyon kaugnay ng extrajudicial killings (EJKs) sa bansa.
“The decision to withdraw is the Philippine principled stand against those how politicize and weaponize human rights, even as its independent and well-functioning organs and agencies continue to exercise jurisdiction over complaints, issues, problems, and concerns arising from its efforts to protect its people,” sabi ng sulat sa UN.
“The Philippine assures the community of nations that the Philippine government continues to be guided by the rule of law embodied in its Constitution, which also enshrines the country’s long-standing tradition of upholding human rights,” ayon pa sa sulat ng Pilipinas sa UN.
