LIKE the weather, some fans can be predictably unpredictable.
Noong hindi pa kabilang sa major cast ng wolf-and-vampire TV series si Angel Locsin, there was literally a howl of protest among the fans of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
Anila, insulto raw ‘yon sa tambalang KathNiel, short of undermining their viewers’ pull—or sheer lack of it—para mag-rate ang palabas.
No need for Angel—ang sigaw nila—KathNiel could sustain their show.
Nitong “pinatay” na ang karakter ni Angel, the same loyal viewers are again up in arms. Nagbanta silang iboboykot ang teleserye.
Which prompts us to ask: ano ba o sino ang come-on ng Twilight-inspired story na ito, ang kuwento tungkol sa mga lobo’t bampira o ang mga artitang gumaganap doon?
Is a viewer’s predilection for patronizing a show based on its story or on the stars who compose it?

The first to have rebelled against most of her supposed fans ay si Maine Mendoza. Her long, strongly worded open letter to her supports noong isang taon said it all.
While Maine’s piece is novel-like in length, ang kay Nadine ay condensed version. Maikli pero kumakagat din.
Ano nga ‘yung sabi ni Nadine patungkol sa kanyang mapandiktang fans, “You don’t tell me how to live my life…you don’t own me!?”
While Nadine or any celebrity for that matter is greatly indebted to her supporters (dahil kung wala naman ang mga ito’y wala rin naman sa kanyang kinalalagyan si Nadine), this does not give any fan the license para diktahan ang kanyang iniidolo.
Nobody owns her except siya mismong may katawan.
And who are they para maging sunud-sunuran naman ang mga idolo nila most especially concerning their private affairs?
Walang iniwan ‘yan sa mismong Facebook wall mo where you vent your thoughts and feelings (it’s like your diary, for public consumption nga lang). Nobody else owns it except you.
You can decorate it, you can desecrate it. You can embellish it, you can demolish it. And it’s nobody’s gangnam business.
