MAINE MENDOZA AT ALDEN RICHARDS
LIKE any other industrious back-breaker, unang araw ng Enero—most especially if it falls on a working day—ay back to work na siya.
The previous holidays may not be enough to celebrate, relax, enjoy and perhaps do some soul-searching pero sa mga mas masisipag, there’s no such thing as extension. Trabaho, trabaho, trabaho na uli sila.
Lunes papatak ang Jan. 1, ilang araw bago natin salubungin ang Year of the Dog. While it’s still a couple of days ahead, Maine Mendoza—the Grand Vacation Girl—wants to start the New Year right.
Or mas akmang sabihing Maine wants to have a new start.
Balita kasing babalik na siya sa Eat Bulaga sa mismong araw na ‘yon, this after what seemed to be an indefinite hiatus from it all.
Bago pa man nag-Pasko ay nauna nang mag-break si Maine, the word “break” could bear more than its literal meaning.
Puwede rin kasing sabihing Maine has broken loose from the fanatic chains that bound her.
Mas pinili niya to be free from that bondage. Pero ang pinakamahalaga, she did without regrets, bagkus her liberation gave her space—enough of it—she simply deserved.
Medyo anxious o apprehensive lang kami as to how Maine’s return to the fold will be taken by most of the “citizens” of the AlDub Nation. Sila rin kasi ang naglagay kay Maine sa ivory tower but the same people who strategized to make her descend from it.
Paano na rin kaya ang working relationship nila on camera ni Alden Richards? Most certainly, goodbye to pabebes, to their saccharine, “diabetes-causing” moments, to the three lolas’ pambubuska.
Hindi na sila lalanggamin sa kaswitan as the world knows there’s nothing to be sweet-as-a-lollipop about. Langgam? Putakti, puwede pa!

Ilang araw na lang ay sasalubungin na natin ang Year of the Dog.
Pero inunahan na ito ni Maine sa kanyang pagkahol when she wrote and made public her long, biting open letter. At the same time, Maine had bitten some of her fans ahead, leaving deep dogbite marks and gaping wounds.
Maine had rolled herself over, short of saying, “Maglalandi ako, pakialam n’yo?!” She sat comfortably, she stood her ground, she played the game she wanted, and won it. She barked to her heart’s content.
She yelped joyously.
Lahat ng klase ng behavior ng aso’y ginawa ni Maine bago pa sumapit ang Taon ng Aso.
Sorry sa ibang mga fans, kayo ang “pinulutan” ni Maine.

Personal: Kahapon ay kaarawan ng aming late dad na si Eufronio/Toto/Ron Jr. who would have turned 74 (he passed away in 1985 at the age of 41).
I’ve always been proud of my dad despite his (forgivable/forgiven) shortcomings. Kung saan man ngayon ang tatay ko, “Daddy, just keep guiding me, at puwede ba, please take this lumbar problem off my back.”
Bakit, may iba pa bang lugar?
