THERE’S no doubt that Philippine sports is in the doldrums because of the incompetence and arrogance of its self-styled leaders.
I then ask: If you our readers happen to be an avid follower of Philippine sports, which would you prefer to support?
1. A Philippine delegation to a regional sports event that is funded with P86.8 million of taxpayers’ money for 722 people, including only 497 athletes (deserving, of course, and hopefully not because of political patronage) with a goal of winning 50-60 gold medals.
Who’s making money here? Hopefully, it’s only the athletes who will be the beneficiary for winning medals for the country, and nobody else.
2. A privately-funded Philippine delegation to an international world competition that includes powerhouses Russia, China and the United States.
What is in there for the local sports leaders spearheading this competition except to give athletes from all over the country (not just the elite in Imperial Manila and overseas-based athletes) a golden opportunity to showcase their talents.
Philanthropy is their leaders’ badge of honor. Nothing else follows. It is never a money-making venture for them.
Sumasakit na nga minsan ang sariling bulsa just to send the athletes to the event.
Never sila umaasa sa pera ng bayan or pera ng ating taxpayers. Nakakahiya kasi. Hindi makapal ang kanilang mukha.
Makatulong lang sa PH sports in their own way ay masaya na sila.
Now, he’s representing the American flag. Can you blame him for doing so?
Ngayon gusto ninyo pa angkinin o agawin itong world competition para kumita ulit at the expense of the taxpayers.
Ganid at swapang ay matalik na magkaibigan. ‘Yan ang tunay na forever.
Ang tanong: Sino ang bayani? Sino ang dakila? Sino ang tunay na baliw?
Athletes above Officials, and not the other way around.
God bless Philippine sports!
