INIHAYAG ng bagong liderato ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) na bubuhayin nito ang operasyon ng small town lottery (STL) sa bansa sa pagsasabing ito lamang ang ligal na sugal sa bansa.
Sa isang briefing sa Malacanang, sinabi ni PCSO general manager Alexander Balutan na may basbas ni Pangulong Duterte ang pagpapatupad ng expanded STL.
“Today, we declare that the small town lottery is the only legal and authorized numbers game nationwide. To all illegal gambling operators, we offer you both an invitation and a warning: Go legal,” sabi ni Balutan.
Idinagdag ni Balutan na layunin ng implementasyon ng expanded STL na mapahinto ang mga iligal na sugal, partikular ang talamak na jueteng sa bansa.
“It is no secret to anyone that illegal gambling has been the scourge of this country for the longest time, spawning corruption in different agencies and levels of government,” ayon pa kay Balutan.
Ayon pa kay Balutan, sa taong 2017, target ng PCSO na makalikom ng P27.8 bilyon kita mula sa operasyon ng STL mula sa 56 na korporasyon.
Sinabi pa ni Balutan na inaasahan na ng PCSO ang pagbatikos sa muling pagpapatupad ng STL sa bansa.
“Buoyed by President’s clear directive and full confidence, the PCSO has partnered with the Philippine National Police through a Memorandum of Agreement detailing each agency responsibilities, including clear provisions regarding the use and transfer of funds collected from STL operations,” ayon pa kay Balutan.
Nangako naman si PCSO Chairman Jorge Corpuz na magkakaroon ng pinaigting na kampanya kontra jueteng.
“As to illegal gambling, we have our partners here, with the PNP, NBI and the AFP for us to stop illegal gambling,” sabi ni Corpuz.
