DAHIL sa mga alegasyon na animal cruelty, inanunsyo ng Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) executive committee nitong Martes na binabawi nito ang award na Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence na iginawad sa pelikulang “Oro”, dahil sa controversial dog slaughter scene.
“Without making any judgment on the artistic merit of the film or cinematic depiction, the MMFF finds the present controversy on the alleged killing of a dog in the course of the filming of the movie effectively casts a doubt on the movie’s ability to exemplify the human and cultural values espoused by the late Fernando Poe Jr.,” ayon sa kalatas ng MMFF committee.
Ginawa umano ng komite ang desisyon matapos silang makipag-ugnayan sa pamilya ni FPJ.
The movie star’s daughter, Sen. Grace Poe, ay una nang nagpatawag ng imbestigasyon hinggil sa isyu, saying FPJ memorial award given to Oro may be rescinded should the dog slaughter scene be proven real.
Nagbanta naman ang Philippine Animal Welfare Society na magsasampa ng kaso laban sa mga tao na lumabag sa Animal Welfare Act.
Itinanggi naman ni Alvin Yapan, ang direktor ng pelikula, ang akusasyon na siya ang nag-utos sa isa sa mga aktor na patayin ang aso, at sinabi na tradisyon na lang ito sa ilang malalayong lugar sa bansa.
