“I’m anti-drugs. I’ve always been an anti-drugs, you know that. My mom is a drug tester,” sabi ni Derek nang makachikahan ng ilang members ng entertainment media sa presscon ng latest movie niyang “The Escort” under Regal Films.
Pagpapatuloy ng aktor, “So I’m against drugs. So for me, dapat wala kayong pinipili—whether artista ka or normal kang tao or mayaman kang businessman.”
Hirit pa ng leading man ni Lovi Poe sa “The Escort”, “Kung gumagamit ka ng drugs or nagtutulak ka ng drugs, dapat you should be stopped, at yung user, ibang ano naman ‘yan. Dapat these people should be given a chance to go to rehab and change.
“Pangit din naman kung dating adik tapos na-realize nila ang pagkakamali nila sa buhay, and they turned their life around which is very difficult, kaya nga it’s an addiction.
“It’s so hard to turn that around and you’re gonna even dig that up and expose to the public na addict ‘to or dating addict. Baka magka-relapse ulit yung tao, so kawawa naman. They should be very careful,” paliwanag pa ni Derek.
“With the war against drugs, I’m for it, but again, there should be due process. Like sa showbiz, we as celebrities, it doesn’t make us better than anybody else, di ba? We’re still the same with anybody.
“If you’re involved with illegal substances, and you don’t want to stop, yeah, you should be put out there. I’m not going against my fellow celebrities, but we’re not gods here.
“We’re not better than everybody else. We’re celebrities and that’s our line of work. That doesn’t make us, you know, president of the Philippines or untouchables,” aniya pa.
Samantala, proud na proud si Derek sa bagong pelikula niya with Lovi and Christopher de Leon. Matagal-tagal na rin siyang hindi nakagawa ng sex drama, “But this is really different. Mas matindi ito when it comes sa tema ng kuwento.
“Tsaka mas grabe yung ginawa namin dito, lalo na si Lovi, such a brave and professional. You have to watch it para maka-relate kayo sa mga sinasabi ko. Mahirap i-explain e. Ha-hahaha!”
