Sinuspendi ng Sandiganbayan Fifth Division si Sen. Joseph Victor Ejecito kaugnay ng kinakaharap nilang kasong graft.
Si Ejercito ay sinuspendi ng 90 araw bilang senador at anumang posisyon sa gobyerno na hawak nito ngayon.
“Accused Joseph Victor Ejercito is hereby suspended from his position as senator of the Republic of the Philippines, and from any other public office which he may now or hereafter be holding for a period of 90 days from receipt of this resolution, unless a motion for reconsideration is seasonably filed,” saad ng resolusyon.
Bukod kay Ejercito sinuspendi rin ng korte sina City Administrator Atty. Ranulfo Dacalos, City Legal Officer Atty. Romualdo de los Santis at Lorenza Ching, special assistant on Documentation and Compliance sa ilalim ng Office of the Mayor.
Kasama rin sa kinasuhan ng Ombudsman sina Rosalinda Marasigan at Danilo Mercado.
“The suspension of all the accused shall automatically be lifted upon the expiration of the 90-day period from the implementation of this resolution.”
Nauna ng naghain ng not guilty plea ang mga akusado at naglagak ng mga piyansa para sa kanilang pansamantalang kalayaan.
Ang kaso ay nag-ugat sa umano’y iligal na paggamit ng calamity fund ng San Juan City na ipinambili ng tatlong K2 cal. 5.56mm sub-machine guns at 17 unit ng Daewoo model K1 cal. 5.56mm sub-machines guns na nagkakahalaga ng P2.1 milyon.
Si Ejercito ang mayor ng siyudad noon.
Ayon sa Ombudsman ang pagbili ng baril ay hindi bahagi ng mga bagay na kasali sa disaster relief and mitigation program ng siyudad.
