Cray pasok sa semis ng hurdles

NAGAWA ni Fil-American Eric Cray na makatuntong sa semifinal round ng men’s 400-meter hurdles sa 2016 Olympics sa Nilton Santos Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Ngunit kailangan niyang bilisan pa ang kanyang ginawa Miyerkules ng umaga (Philippine time) para maka-usad sa finals.
Tumapos sa ikatlong puwesto si Cray sa anim na runners sa heat 4 ng preliminaries kahapon sa tiyempo na 49.05 segundo, na mas mabagal sa kanyang personal best time na 48.96 segundo.

Ang top three runners sa bawat heat ay makatatakbo sa semis kasama ang anim na seeded runner. Kabuuang 24 runners ang nasa semis na hinati sa tatlong heats na may walong runners kada heat. Ang top two finishers ng bawat heat ang uusad sa finals habang ang dalawang natitirang slot ay ibibigay sa runner na may pinakamabilis na oras sa semis.

Asam ni Cray, na tinaguriang fastest man in Southeast Asia, na makapasok sa finals kung saan tangka nito maagaw ang kahit na tansong medalya. Sakaling makausad, siya ang kauna-unahang Pilipino na tatakbo sa Olympic finals ng men’s 400m hurdles matapos na nagawa ito ni Miguel White noong 1936 sa Berlin. Si White, na isa ding Fil-Am, ay nagwagi ng tanso sa Berlin.
“I qualified to the next round and I’m really excited.

That was my second fastest time. I just want to get to the semis tomorrow and run as fast as I can and hopefully make it to the finals” sabi ni Cray, na isinilang sa Olongapo City subalit nakatira na ngayon sa Texas, USA. Samantala, sasalang naman ngayon sa women’s long jump ang three-time Olympian na si Marestella Torres-Sunang.
