SASAGUPAIN ng University of Perpetual Help at Arellano University ang Emilio Aguinaldo College at Lyceum of the Philippines University ngayon asam ang panalo na kapwa magpapanatili rito sa pagkapit sa ikalawang puwesto sa 92nd NCAA men’s basketball tournament sa The Arena sa San Juan City.

Sa pangunguna ng Nigerian na si Bright Akhuetie ay tatlong sunod na panalo ang itinala ng Altas kabilang ang 71-68 panalo sa LPU Pirates noong Biyernes na nagtulak dito sa ikalawang puwesto sa 5-2 panalo-talong kartada.

Matindi ang ipinapakita ni Akhuetie sa nakalipas na mga laro matapos magtala ng average na 18.8 puntos, 11.8 rebounds at 1.8 blocks kada laro.

Masusubok ito ng matindi ng 6-foot-11 Cameroonian na si Hamadou Laminou na nagtala sa huli nitong laro ng 18 puntos, 16 rebounds at limang blocked shots na nagtulak sa Generals sa 73-67 panalo sa San Sebastian College Stags.

“It wil be a good game because we expect them to play us strong because they also have a good import in Laminou,” sabi ni Perpetual Help coach Gimwell Gican.

Nakisalo din ang Chiefs sa apat na koponang ikalawang puwesto kasama ang Perpetual Help, Mapua at defending champion Letran na tinalo naman ang St. Benilde Blazers, 70-59.

Sasagupain ng Arellano ang determinadong LPU squad na pilit babawi sa nakakadismayang kabiguan sa Perpetual Help matapos itala ang tatlong sunod na panalo na pinakamahaba sapul hawakan ni coach Topex Robinson.

“We can’t underestimate Lyceum because we can also see how well they’re playing the past few games,” sabi lamang ni Arellano mentor Jerry Codiñera.

Tampok sa iba pang laro ang Jose Rizal University (2-4) kontra San Sebastian College (1-6) sa ganap na alas- 4 ng hapon.
