PAGLALABANAN ng San Miguel Beermen at NLEX Road Warriors ang ikalawang sunod na panalo para makisosyo sa liderato sa pahingang Meralco Bolts at Mahindra Enforcers sa kanilang 2016 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round game ngayon sa Araneta Coliseum sa Quezon City.
Magsasagupa sa unang laro ganap na alas-4:15 ng hapon ang defending champion Beermen (1-0) at Road Warriors (1-0) tampok ang eksplosibong girian nina two-time Best Import AZ Reid ng San Miguel Beer at Henry Walker ng NLEX bago ang salpukan ng Star Hotshots (0-1) at Blackwater Elite (0-1) na kapwa asam ang unang panalo sa kanilang alas-7 ng gabi na laro.
Bagaman hindi nakapaglaro ang mga injured players na sina Arwind Santos, Gabby Espinas, Chris Lutz at Yancy de Ocampo, nilampaso ng Beermen ang Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters, 124-113, noong Linggo sa pangunguna ni Reid na nagtala ng 41 puntos at 10 rebounds habang si two-time season MVP June Fajardo ay may 21 puntos. Nag-ambag ng 20 puntos si Alex Cabagnot at 12 puntos si Marcio Lassiter para sa San Miguel Beer.
“We cannot relax, more so now that every team is very competitive. We want to get a lot of wins from the start and gain inclusion among the top eight (in the quarterfinals),” sabi ni Beermen coach Leo Austria.
“SMB is a still a very strong team offensively scoring 124 points last game even without Arwind. With Reid there it’s a tough game,” sabi ni Road Warriors coach Teodorico Fernandez III na magmumula sa 96-90 panalo kontra Elite noong Sabado kung saan nagmaneho ng career-high 44 puntos si Walker.
“We just have to play solid team defense against SMB if we want to give ourselves a chance to win the game,” sabi pa ni Fernandez.
Pilit namang babawi ang Hotshots sa 100-92 upset loss sa Enforcers noong nakaraang Biyernes.
