“In this fight, I ask Congress and the Commission on Human Rights and all others who are similarly situated to allow us a level of governance that is consistent to our mandate. The fight will be relentless and it will be sustained,” sabi ni Duterte matapos namang pormal na makapanumpa bilang ika-16 pangulo ng bansa.
Nauna nang nangako si Duterte na tatapusin ang kriminalidad at droga sa loob ng tatlo hanggang anim na buwan.

Dumalo naman sina dating pangulong Fidel Ramos, dating pangulo at ngayon ay Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada; Senate President Franklin Drilon; Speaker Feliciano Belmonte sa isinagawang inaguration.
Hindi naman dumalo si Vice President Leni Robredo sa inagurasyon ni Duterte.
Dumalo naman sina dating senator Ferdinand “Bongbong Marcos sa isinagawang inagurasyon kasama ang kanyang ate na si Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos.
Sinabi ni Duterte na alam niyang maraming kontra sa kanyang paraan para masugpo ang kriminalidad
Ayon pa kay Duterte, nakita niya kung paano siraan ng iligal na droga ang tao ang relasyon ng mga at miyebro ng pamilaya.
Inamin din ni Duterte na hindi magiging madali ang laban.
