PSC, La Salle forge deal
THE partnership between the Philippine Sports Commission and De La Salle University was sealed yesterday with the groundbreaking ceremony held at the Rizal Memorial Football Field.
The PSC and La Salle will be joining hands in the refurbishment of the football field found at the center of the track and field stadium, and the establishment of the Sports Academy.
PSC chairman Harry Angping joined La Salle University president Fr. Armin Luistro and School VP for External Relations Bro. Bernie Oca in the groundbreaking.
Under the agreement, La Salle will shoulder the cost of the refurbishment to the tune of P7.4 million while the PSC will have management control.
“Of course, La Salle will have some priority on the use of the field but the PSC will maintain the control of the turf just like other existing venues inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex,” explained Angping who is also donating a P500,000 personal fund to help the project.
Angping added that the PSC could have done the refurbishment alone but got La Salle as its partner since the said university will help the government agency in the creation of the Sports Academy to be raised at the North and South Tower of the Rizal Memorial Track and Field Stadium.
“Our athletes and other interested individuals will greatly benefit with the creation of the Sports Academy so we decided to have La Salle as our partner,” added Angping.
The partnership will last for eight years and is renewable.
Refurbishment of the football field will start after the National Open of the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association to be staged from May 21 to 23. — Mike Lee
