DOUTHIT MAKAKALARO SA INCHEON ASIAD

MAKAKALARO si Marcus Douthit sa Gilas Pilipinas.

Ito ang pagtitiyak na ginawa ni Chief of Mission at PSC chairman Ricardo Garcia upang isantabi ang pangamba na hindi paglalaruin ang 6-foot-10 naturalized player ng Pilipinas.

Si Douthit ay kasama sa 19 manlalaro na naunang ipinalista sa Incheon Asian Games Organizing Committee (IAGOC) pero hindi pinangalanan ni coach Chot Reyes sa kanyang 12-man lineup na ibinigay noong Agosto 15 dahil pinili niya si Andray Blatche.

Pero nagdesisyon ang IAGOC at Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) na hindi puwede ang ikalawang naturalized player ng Pilipinas dahil sa three-year residency rule.

“Douthit is a legitimate inclusion to the team,” wika ni Garcia na siya ring nakipagdiinan na dapat tanggapin ang player sa pakikipagpulong sa IAGOC at OCA noong isinagawa ang Delegation Registration Meeting noong Setyembre 11.

“The OCA accepted Douthit. He is officially a part of the Gilas Pilipinas. The OCA accepted the Philippine position that Blatche was initially listed under the impression based on FIBA rules that he is qualified. But after the OCA acceptance of our position, nothing can change that anymore,” paliwanag pa ni Garcia.

Ganito rin ang estado ni Jimmy Alapag na pinalitan si Jayson Castro dahil sa injury.

Ang men’s basketball ay sinasandalan na kayang manalo ng gintong medalya matapos ang pangalawang puwestong pagtatapos sa FIBA Asia Men’s Championship noong nakaraang taon sa Pilipinas.

Si Douthit ang ginamit sa kompetisyon at kahit naapektuhan ng injury ay sapat ang ipinakita ng mga locals para pumangalawa sa Iran at makakuha ng tiket sa FIBA World Cup sa Spain.
