Akting ni ‘THE ROCK’ sa Hercules sablay

“HERCULES” is, so far, the better version of the mythical character. Back-to-back naming pinanood ang “Hercules” with “Step Up All In” thinking we do this review last Sunday but with the brownout nga, we were not able to do so.

Dahil Dwayne Johnson ito, we expected big turnout in the audience sa Cinema 3 3D sa TriNoma last Friday when it opened and we’re not wrong.

Note lang that the character is still the most famous Greek character as far as Hollywood is concerned dahil this year, it has three versions: “Hercules Reborn” starring John Hennigan and “The Legend of Hercules” starring “Twilight” boy Kellan Lutz.

After “Hercules” killed his family, his wife Megara and three children, tormented soul pa rin si Hercules (Dwayne) so he decided to accept the 12 labors from about to be Thrace king Lord Cotys (John Hurt) with his group, the Amazon Atalanta (Ingrid Berdal), Tydeus (Rufus Sewell) and Amphiraius (Ian McShane) to defeat the centaur Rhesus (Tobias Santelmann).

What Hercules and his group did not know, they are being played upon by Lord Cotys and King Eurystheus (Joseph Fiennes) until it’s almost too late.

Let’s start with the storytelling. So far, this is the nearest in the original story. That Hercules has a wife Megara and three children and that they were killed; that it was the Thrace people who suggested the twelve labors and that he has a group of partners na hindi masyadong binanggit.

That is the legend of Hercules kasi, dahil alone lang siya sa mga adventures niya but he’s not, he’s got a group and the movie got it right. Ikalawa, galit si Hercules hanggang sa dulo kay Hera dahil gusto siyang patayin nito when the goddess wife of Zeus found out he was born to a mortal woman and just to appease the goddess, ginamit ang pangalan ni Hera sa pangalan ni Hercules (originally Heracles or the Grace of Hera) but until the end we don’t remember having the two reconciled, the goddess and the demi-god.

Now as to special effects, alam mong may budget ang movie more than Kellan’s pitiful version dahil most of the labors ipinakita dito at hindi lang ikinuwento. The monsters look real and it’s so funny that even the centaurs look real when in fact it’s not pala, even us were fooled about this and we like the twist on this.

The scriptwriter kasi is trying to make Hercules look normal and real and not godlike and that is good. Isang beses lang natin nakita ang powers niya na hindi lang basta ikinuwento, the famous pillars he had to free himself.

Don’t mind the acting. There were funny moments because there are legitimate actors like John Hurt, so what Dwayne lack in depth, the rest gave him ample acting support.

Maybe napagod na ang American audience sa “Hercules” story as last Monday, it was beaten by Scarlett Johannson’s “Lucy” although respectable pa rin ang box-office result ng “Hercules” and this is an action movie and starring somebody from the WWE so expect bigger box-office here as it did not disappoint naman in any way.
