‘Plagiarism-Bayang Magiliw scandal’ ni Tito Sotto muling binuhay

AFFECTED much ang netizens sa Rappler Facebook post where it articulated Senate President Tito Sotto’s statement: “Newly-appointed Senate President Tito Sotto on being a comedian: ‘Shakespeare was a comedian.’

“On plagiarism issue: It was an inspirational message from a pastor. If you translate it into Tagalog, that’s not plagiarism. If you think that way then Bayang Magiliw is plagiarized because it was originally Spanish.”

Ang daming nag-react, most of them ballistic.

“There’s this thing called TRANSLATION PLAGIARISM, you freakin’ ignoramus! And it’s Lupang Hinirang not Bayang Magiliw! Komedyante ka talaga!”

“Serving for decades in Senate but didnt know what is the difference between translation and plagiarism nor the title of the Philippine National Anthem. Ladies and Gentlemen… the Newly-appointed Senate President.”

“To the senators who signed the resolution to make him senate president, binabati namin kayo ng isang libo’t isang tuwa, buong bansa….Bayang Magiliw!”

“1. You are not Shakespeare. shakespeare’s comedies have happy endings. your misogyny is tragic. branding single mothers as ‘na ano lang.’”

“2. justifying your plagiarism by renaming it as translation maligns the creativity of people who bleed their brains to come up with original works. plagiarism is not translation and no matter what twisted justifications you give, you sir, PLAGIARIZED.”

“Itanong nyo uli meaning ng PLAGIARISM at yung Bayang Magiliw daw ay flagiarize sus ginoo there’s no such thing as Bayang Magiliw sen sotto it’s LUPANG HINIRANG and it wasn’t plagiarized.”
Obviously, those ranting against senator Sotto were not able to watch the entire interview where he said,

“Plagiarism is when you take something and say it is yours – a written book, a written line. In all my speeches, I always say somewhere in my speech that I am not a scientist, I am not a doctor. I get these materials from books, from authors, from scientists, from doctors. But they refuse to listen to that.”

Matuloy pa kaya ang plano nilang pagmomove-on?
