Piston isinulong ang ‘socially-just’ jeepney modernization scheme
ISINULONG ng mga miyembro ng Pagkakaisa ng Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) ang pagbasura sa jeepney modernization program ng gobyerno matapos ang isinagawang kilos protesta ngayong araw.
Iginiit ni Piston leader George San Mateo na dapat itong palitan ng “socially-just” modernization program para sa mga driver, operator, at publiko.
“Ang gusto naming mangyare ay i-junk noong pamahalaan yung kasalukuyang programa at magbuo ulit ng bagong programa. At kapag bumuo ulit ng bagong programa dapat ay tunay, genuine modernization, sustainable, mass-oriented, at higit sa lahat, socially-just at ang perspective ay patungo dapat sa mass progression,” sabi ni San Mateo.
Nagprotesta ang mga jeepney driver at operator sa Welcome Rotunda sa Quezon City at nagmartsa papuntang Mendiola Peace Arc malapit sa Malacañang sa Maynila.
Iginiit ni San Mateo na hindi siya tutol sa modernisasyon ng gobyerno, bagamat naniniwala siyang magreresulta ito sa phaseout ng mga jeepney sa bansa.
