BUBUKSAN ng Gilas Pilpinas cadets ang pagdepensa sa korona at pagsungkit ng kabuuang ikaanim na titulo kontra Canada ngayon sa ganap na alas-3 ng hapon sa pagsisimula ng 39th William Jones Cup Men’s International Basketball Tournament 2017 sa Chinese Taipei International Basketball Hall sa Taipei, Taiwan.

Sunod na makakasagupa ng national cage team ang host squad Team B bukas, Hulyo 16, sa alas-7 ng gabi, ang host country Team A sa Lunes sa alas-3 ng hapon, ang Japan sa Martes sa ala-1 ng hapon, ang South Korea sa alas-5 ng hapon sa Miyerkules at Iraq sa alas-5 ng hapon sa Huwebes.

Makakasagupa nito ang Lithuania sa alas-3 ng hapon sa Biyernes, ang India sa Sabado sa ala-1 ng hapon at ang tatlong sunod na Asian Games champion Iran sa alas-5 ng hapon sa Linggo, Hulyo 23, sa ikasiyam at panghuli nitong diretsong laban sa siyam na araw na torneo.

Bibitbitin ng siyam na bagitong Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players ang Nationals tampok ang magbabalik mula sa injury na si Rey Mark Belo ng Blackwater Elite ang 17-man PH roster na umalis ng bansa kahapon pa-Taiwan.

Magsisilbing tune-up na rin ito ng Nationals sa hangarin nitong maipagtanggol ang korona o masungkit ang ika-12 diretsong titulo at ika-18 kabuuang gintong medalya sa 29th Southeast Asian Games sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia na gaganapin sa Agosto 19 hanggang 30.

“They have to realize the urgency that almost every possession and every defensive cover is almost a matter of life and death because of the kind of competition we’re playing in Taipei,” sabi ni national coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes.  “It’s very high level and we can’t afford costly mistakes.”
