SINGAPORE — Pinagharian ng Pilipinong si National Master Roberto Suelo Jr. ang ACA Hari Raya Rapid Open Chess 2017 na ginanap nitong weekend dito sa Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.
Umiskor si Suelo ng 6.5 puntos para maungusan ang pumangalawang si Lincoln Yap ng Cebu na may 6.0 puntos.
Natapos naman bilang 3rd at 4th sina Fide Master Andrean Susilodinata ng Indonesia at Richard Lean Boon Cheng ng Singapore na parehong may 4.5 puntos.
Tinalo ni Suelo si FM Susilodinata sa Round Two, tabla sa kababayan na si Yap sa Round Five at namayani naman kay Boon Cheng sa final round.
Ang 1996 Philippine Junior champion na si Suelo din ang nagkampeon sa Thomson Chess Fiesta-Cup Rapid event na ginanap nitong Mayo dito sa Singapore.
Si Suelo ay kasalukuyan nagta-trabaho bilang chess teacher sa Singapore.
Lumaki at ipinanganak siya sa Quezon City at dating miyembro ng Rizal Technological University (RTU) Mandaluyong chess team. —Marlon Bernardino
