INIHAHANDA na para sa malalaking torneo at hindi na bubuwagin ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) ang kasalukuyang komposisyon ng Gilas Pilipinas Cadet Pool na nag-uwi ng korona mula sa katatapos na Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Stankovic Cup for Men 2016 na isinagawa sa Bangkok, Thailand.
Sinabi mismo ni SBP Executive Director Sonny Barrios sa isang panayam sa telebisyon na plano ng asosasyon na patuloy na sanayin at ihanda ang koponan para sa mga nalalapit na internasyonal na torneyo.
“There is a plan to maintain the composition of the Gilas cadet team that will be the one to send or compete in the new competitions that was approved recently by FIBA,” sabi ni Barrios. Base sa inaprubahang kalendaryo ng FIBA, ilang qualifying na torneo ang isasagawa para sa mga regional at zone na para sa Olympics.
Kabilang sa koponan ang mga collegiate players na sina Kevin Ferrer (UST), Von Rolfe Pessumal (Ateneo), Jiovani Jalalon (Arellano), Jonas Raphael Tibayan (Chiang Kai Shek), Cris Michael Tolomia (FEU), Ken Holmqvist (FEU), Raymar Jose (FEU), Roger Pogoy (FEU), Rey Mark Belo (FEU) at Russel Escoto (FEU).
