Kung first time nagkaroon ng pangulo mula sa Mindanao, bakit hindi pwedeng magkaroon ng unang Speaker na babae?
Posibleng si outgoing senator at incoming Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano ang maging speaker ng Kamara de Representantes kung mabibigo umano si incoming Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez na bumuo ng koalisyon para mahawakan ng Duterte administration ang Mababang Kapulungan.
“Compared to Alvarez, Sen. Pia is more experienced and carries the credentials to become the next Speaker,” saad ng mambabatas na kaalyado ni Duterte. “If we want a serious and credible Congress to push the campaign promised of change, Sen. Pia is the best candidate for the top post (Speaker).”
Lumutang ang pangalan ni Cayetano sa isa sa mga pagpupulong para buuhin ang mga opisyal ni presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.
Si incoming Rep. Cayetano ay kapatid ni Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano na running mate ni Duterte sa katatapos na eleksyon.
Si Alvarez ay dating kalihim ng Department of Transportation and Communication sa ilalim ng Arroyo government. Siya ay isinangkot sa maanomalya umanong pagbibigay ng kontrata ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 project sa Philippine International Air Terminals Co. Inc.
Ang mapipiling speaker ni Duterte ay posibleng lumaban kay Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., ng Liberal Party na may 100 miyembro sa kasalukuyang Kongreso.
Ang ikalawang pinakamaraming boto sa speakership race ay magiging House minority leader.
Pero hindi pa rin naaalis ang posibilidad na makipagsanib puwersa na lamang ang Duterte government kay Belmonte sakaling mabigo sila na makahanap ng mga kongresista na magpapalaki sa kanilang bilang.
Sinabi naman ni Alvarez na mayroon silang numero para manalo dahil marami na umano ang tumatawag na lilipat.
